2006 – 2007

In order to better serve the community surrounding our campus IASA members this year had the opportunity to become more involved in IASA by joining the first ever Service Core which helped put together not only Gandhi Day, but a Charity Night and opportunity day of service at a local nursery. This year, social chairs not only helped strengthen the social network within the Indian-American community, but they were also able to provide academic resources to the membership . Along with the C-Tools access which now holds the first Test Bank, events such as the Pre-Professional Smorgasbord and Backpacking Workshop all helped answer unanswered questions about life not only at Michigan, but life afterwards. Awareness for important issues affecting Indian Americans were tackled this year by examining globalization, the AIDS issue affecting India, and the controversial issue of the Kashmir conflict. The annual cultural show, Anveshana, displayed a wide range of Indian dance and music traditions at a sold-out Hill Auditorium.

Every year IASA board faces the challenge of not only continuing the legacy of excellence, but also the challenge of furthering it. It is for this reason 17 IASA members came together in order to provide the Indian-American community with opportunities to explore and learn about the traditions of not only India, but the Desi culture.
